Description | From the CD booklet: A’ Bhòilich was composed by Ranald as an intended lament. But the recipient recovered and so the tune became a boasting or vaunting. This is domestic music of the aristocratic big house, played by the composer for the dedicatee at home in their chambers: a private setting for personal interactions. Like the architecture of the thatched and gabled old mansion, the tune’s formal structure expresses ambitions and pride, articulated and represented theatrically. |
