I am fascinated by the interplay of paint with a natural substance, silk, and my favoured method of working is to allow the paint to run into the silk to create fluid, ethereal effects. I also produce more decorative work using gutta, and experiment with shibori, salt and wax techniques, so that each painting is unique. The theme 'Natural Elements Translated Into Silk' runs through my work, which is inspired by images from nature, both real and imaginary. I aim to capture the 'spirit of place' rather than the actual representation, and give a modern interpretation to an ancient art form.
