Biography

Ruth Scott

I was born and currently live in Glasgow and work mostly in Acrylics and soft chalk pastels.

Having chosen not to take up a position offered to me at Dundee School of Art in the 80's, I spent several barren years away from painting. I worked for a large Law Firm for many years when my artwork took the form of a hobby. In 1999 I moved to the beautiful Isle of Bute where I spent 7 years living on the coast. The magical quality of light and its reflection on the water cast its spell on me and rekindled my desire to try to transfer this to canvas, and to make up for lost time!

I absolutely love to paint, huge dramatic skies are my favourite subject matter. My work reflects a moody melancholy theme.

In the main part I am self taught, but have benefitted from attending many part time courses with Glasgow School of Art and Strathclyde University, and various artists workshops.
