Sarah Green

Having completed a joint honours degree in English and French I taught for many years, holding management positions. I have lived in England, France and Wales and am now settled in the south west of Scotland.

I am predominantly a landscape artist, working mainly in acrylics. I am inspired by the Scottish islands and coastline, particulalry the light and colours on the islands of the Outer Hebrides. I am drawn to stones, sea, mountains, and skies.

From my garden I can see the sea and the Isle of Arran and Holy Isle, both of which appear in my paintings. Painting is my therapy; it keeps my mind, body and spirit healthy and furthers my connection with nature and life.

Other Information

Harris and Lewis provide me with my main source of inspiration. I feel a strong connection with the spirit of the place and I am drawn to stone and lichen, heather, machair and the sea. I am moved by the daily changes that manifest according to the weather or the season, particularly the colours and textures. All of my textile pieces are hand stitched and hand finished, using predominantly natural fibres. I also use texture in my paintings, working mainly in acrylic, building up layers and working with a variety of tools.
