Aileen Wrennall

I am mostly self taught, and while working, became interested in sketching, drawing and painting. I attended classes in drawing, life drawing and painting at various colleges including The Glasgow School of Art and this further developed my interest in painting, particularly watercolour. In recent years I have enhanced my painting skills and knowledge of techniques by painting in the UK and abroad with various artists including Charles Reid, Mike Chaplin, Jenny Wheatley and Shirley Trevena, whose fabulous watercolours were part of my original inspiration to paint. I now paint full time and have sold successfully both privately and in exhibitions at home and abroad.

I am an elected member of Glasgow Society of Women Artists (GSWA) and teach watercolour painting classes in my studio and also give master-classes to various art groups. A number of my paintings have been selected by two commercial card companies for reproduction on their greetings cards. These are for sale on my website.

Other Information

Unusual shapes and exciting colours are my inspiration and I am constantly buying unusual objects to put into paintings. Flowers have amazing shapes and colour combinations and are another starting point for my paintings. Many of my ideas come from my travels and I love to paint landscapes and scenes that are evocative of relaxing or romantic places where I want the viewer to feel able to walk into the location and make it their own.
