After leaving Art School he trained as an art teacher and taught firstly at Kilmarnock Academy and then at Grange Academy where he became principal teacher of Art and Design.
additional information: His subject matter is predominantly the landscape of The Irvine Valley round about the town of Newmilns where he stays. In recent years he has also focused on marine subjects, finding inspiration from various locations in the west coast, namely Troon, Dunure. Maidens and Girvan. He works in a variety of media: oils, pastels, gouache and watercolour and finds his inspiration by working directly in front of the subject throughout the year. An essential aspect of his working methods is to try to communicate in his work the excitement that he feels when witnessing an ever changing subject at first hand.
