biography: I live on the beautiful Isle of Arran off the west coast of Scotland, to which I retired after a working life in medical research developing improved medicines. I am a self-taught artist who was inspired by the magnificent varied scenery of the island, and its wonderful skies, sunsets and sunrises to try to capture them using a semi-abstract style which emphasises the beauty of the colours and conveys the emotions which they engender.
I combine art with the computer screen on which I paint the pictures. The image is then printed with a specialised printer, using pigment inks onto treated canvas to avoid fading, then individually signed, titled and numbered in a limited edition of only 25.
My first Arran picture - 'Dawn arrivals' - was inspired by the contrails of aeroplanes high over Holy Isle early one winter morning. After that new pictures just seemed to pop up everywhere! Rich colours combine with geometric shapes to produce semi-abstract views; other gentler scenes reflect the morning mists or sunbeams through clouds over the sea.
My 'Dreamscapes' series is pure escapist - reflections of moods or remembered holidays - sometimes drawn from half-remembered scenes and the associated feelings, sometimes pure imagination.
The 'Flower art' series derives from my other interest in photography. Specially taken images are hand-moulded to emphasise the structural elements of the blooms, and placed in a frame which brings out their intense colours, turning photographs into works of art which glorify the beauty of the natural world.
additional information: Limited edition canvas prints are available in sizes A4 and A3 framed in a black wood frame with safety 'glass'; larger sizes are stretched canvases on an artists wood frame laminated with a semi-matte film to enhance UV resistance.
