biography: Dorothy McCluskie was born in Kilmarnock and trained in Art & Design in Glasgow. She recently returned to Ayrshire after several years in Central Scotland. Dorothy works primarily in bold, textured oils and has been exhibiting across Scotland since the early 1990's, with some work in England and the U.S.
"Although my style is generally traditional, in my seascapes my main focus is on light, movement and the various moods of the water scenes, which I find particularly therapeutic. I especially love the more rugged, rocky stretches of the West Coast of Scotland. I try to capture the atmosphere of a scene, rather than aiming for a more detailed photographic style of reproduction.
In the same way, with my portraiture I attempt to convey something of the subject's character and spirit, rather than focusing solely on their physical features."
additional information: exhibits with Maggie Bolton, Ayrshire painter specialising in animal portraiture
